Hello friends! Just a super quick post today to let you all know that I'm having a little sale to help me regain some storage space after the insanity that was  Greazefest . I made a lot  of stock. Easily 5x what I brought along with me last year. Egads! I had 2 staff, lots of freebies, wow. It was a fun, crazy busy day and so wonderful to meet some of my local customers. You'll send some pictures below but first, here is the link to the sale items:- "On Special" Soaps - discounted, yay! Ivy & anchors, the cuteness! Can you see the new liquid perfumes? Soon to be released, win! Oh my, are they candles? Run out of time making signage? Simply grab a couple of cork boards , some pins and you're golden. DOLL HEADS! See how happy they make me :D How do you like the decorations? PUG SOAPS! My...precious. Totally exclusive to Sailor Mouth Soaps :D Don't forget to check out the s...

The plight of the highly distractible

I doubt I'm alone here but I still have to say it....I think I'm one of the easiestly distractible people on the planet BUT only when it comes to my own business. If you give me a task in any other area of my life, I'm on it and I follow through but when it comes to running a business, I find it extremely hard to stay focused. For example, I sat down 3 hours ago to prepare the newsletter for next week (it's a sale one, oooher!) and somehow that evolved into writing a blog post but before I even began writing, I was playing with the font, layout and general appearance of the blog. Something I'd been meaning to do for two months. Searching for a decent set of social media icons (especially ones that include  Pinterest ) somehow became part of that equation as well. When I realised my distraction, I then visited  Fishpond  and bought two books on running a craft business/setting yourself goals/staying on track etc. Apparently self awareness = throw money at it. Greazefest planning

Image
Hello my dear local lovelies. Who's excited for  Greazefest?  I know I am :D This year is shaping up to be the best yet. You're probably already familiar with the Sunday markets as they are, without a doubt, the best shopping in one place you'll go to all year . This year there will be over 150 market stalls. Can you believe it? We've snagged an excellent spot:- Our site is no. 14 in the Open Air Sites.  Right smack bang in the middle around the top edge of the oval, near the Goburra Street entrance. I have a tonne of signage this year so you won't miss me. Please note that I'm NOT at the Art Show Site like I have been the last two years as many people still don't know that area exists and there is little to no signage to point people in that direction. To help prepare for the day, I would LOVE to get some feedback from you about what you would like to have available to buy. Having well over 100 products, I'm sure you can appreciate tha...

Greazefest wrap-up

Image
It's already been a week since the big day, crazy! The day itself went off without a hitch (this year :P). There was a little hicup in the weeks leading up to the event. My supplies went missing in the post! They were 10 days late and needless to say, I was freaking out. I was already running low when I placed an order...they finally arrived 5 days before the event so I was working almost around the clock to get enough stock together.   I guess the silver-lining was that the hand-wringing down time let me focus on the display, print out signs, labels etc. So I guess it wasn't all bad, in hindsight.  Thanks to a kind friend, we had a marquee for the day and boy, was I glad about that! The stall faced East so we had the morning sun and the midday sun was rather burny despite a chilly breeze. Thanks for the marquee Dave! Having my fiance Brad there was a life saver, it got so busy at times that should have had three staff! I don't know how I would have coped...

Twas the night before Greazefest....

The car is packed and ready to go for tomorrow's market day at Greazefest, I can't wait! 5,000 plus people are expected through the door, it's going to be a massive day of bands, shopping & other exciting events. I've been working virtually around the clock in preparation for the big day. I'll have soaps galore, lip balms, soy wax melts and solid perfumes to tempt you. Here's a little sneak peak of what will be on offer tomorrow - I took over the spare bedroom downstairs to play with the layout of the display. My op-shop missions had paid off with some fantastic goodies, my favorite being the tiered case you can see in the back. I'll be making a few changes to the layout but I was glad I took the time to do a mock set up, it'll be so early and cold tomorrow; I doubt my brain could come up with anything much without a test run :P See you there <3

Greazefest!

Image
Have you heard of Greazefest before? It's pretty much the most exciting thing that happens in Brisbane each August:- GreazeFest is the 'must-do' event for kustom kulture devotees in the Southern Hemisphere. Held in Brisbane, Australia, the GreazeFest is a crankin' weekend of cool cars, rockabilly tunes, vintage bikes, lowrider cycles, low brow art, pinstripers, tattoos and vintage threads. Coming up is the 12th annual installment of this rockin' shindig, so get yourself ready for a huge weekend of fun. Thousands of rockabilly and hot rod fans will be rolling into Rocklea Showground for two hot rockin' nites of live music, followed by one huge day of ultra-kool kustom kulture. It runs from Friday 5th August to Sunday 7th August with heaps of bands (rockabilly, psychobilly & a little country) on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. My favorite day is Sunday aka THE MARKET DAY! With more than 110 market stalls, a not-to-be-missed art ...

Update time! (long overdue)

Image
*Update - Monty has been adopted by a very active woman (she runs marathons!) and she can take him to work! How great is that? Super happy ending :)* There's a few things happening at Sailor Mouth Soaps headquarters and it's high time for another blog post so here we go. Firstly, we are taking on another foster dog. This little dude is named Monty and he should be here in the next half an hour, yay! He's the second dog we've fostered so far and I'm very excited about getting him ready for his forever home :) If you're interested in fostering yourself, you can contact  Animal Rescue QLD *Update - here's Monty!* Now onto the business update. * New scrubs - these are slowly being released. It kills me to have them "product ready" but due to bad weather conditions here in Brisbane, taking a decent photo has been outside the realms of possibility over the last few weeks. I'm also waiting on packaging, labels etc. Releasing a new produc...

Greazefest Kustom Kulture Festival wrap up

Image
You might have noticed that I've been somewhat absent for the last month due to the mammoth task of preparing for  Greazefest  - Brisbane's own 1950's nostalgia festival. Well I'm pleased to say that the day was a fantastic success! To keep with the theme of  Mimsy's Trailer Trash Tattoo  stall of a Hawaiian Luau, I had made my soap all in the Tiki & Hawaiian themes. Here's some pictures:- If I've managed to keep your attention up until this point, then you're in luck! Between today (2nd August) and next Monday (9th August), buy any three soaps in my  Sailor Mouth Soaps Etsy Store  and pick a fourth for free! Simply add BLOGOFFER to the "notes to seller" upon purchase & tell me which soap you would like. It must be of equal or lesser value to the other soaps you are buying & this must all be done in the same transactio...
