My home state of Queensland is sadly experiencing its worst flood disaster in over 30 years. 75% of the state has been inundated and declared a disaster zone. Many have perished, more are missing and feared dead. Up North there are some country towns which have been devastated beyond comprehension as they were hit with what can only be described as "an inland tsunami". Entire families are missing and whole houses have been swept away. Crops have been ruined, countless animals have drowned and now despite having been surrounded by water, clean drinking water is running out and illness is setting in. It's hard to comprehend the magnitude of the situation, I can't even begin to imagine the horror that people have endured. The flood victims, the misery of the Police and SES of searching through the debris for bodies, the agonising wait for news of missing friends and family, the grief of a lost pet that only an animal lover could understand. I was just taking a few moments to review my shipping guidelines and shop policies over in my  Etsy Store  and I got to thinking about the "freshness" of handmade soap. My soaps are made in small batches, to order. I don't keep large amounts of stock on hand like a department store because I want you to have the freshest, more fragrant, most foamingly awesome soap money can buy. Each bar is unique and has been treated like my baby from setting to sale. Some of my customers like the look of my soaps so much that they keep them for many months on display before they are used. While I appreciate the wonderful compliment, its a bit like buying fresh fruit & veg, only to leave it in the fridge for months and wonder why it's not as fresh anymore! It's like if I decide I want a nice stir-fry for dinner. I'd go out and buy the veggies fresh to use that night, not  use what I had left lying around at the bottom of the crisper. I wanted to introduce you to the newest member of the Sailor Mouth Soaps family, an adopted Orangutan named Carmen! She is being cared for at the Nyaru Menteng Orangutan Reintroduction Project just outside of Palangka Raya, Kalimantan, which is part of the Island of Borneo. She was brought in by her owners and surrendered into the care of the facility.  Thankfully her owners realised that they couldn’t care for an infant Orangutan and did the right thing, allowing her in time, to be released back into the wild. She is very independent and *loves* milk. She used to be a bit of a terror when she was younger, now if she wants a bottle, she just goes and gets it herself. From the 1 st January 2011, I’m very excited to announce that I will be putting aside a portion of each sale to go towards adopting even more Orangutans in the coming year! The ridiculously long neglect of my blog has prompted me to get my butt into gear and write a decent post!
