The getaway so far

Queenstown is AWESOME! Our flight coming in was a little delayed  but that was ok, it gave us more time to catch up with the friend's we're traveling with. The flight was good, the seats weren't that comfy but the landing was smooth, gotta love that. Flying isn't my favorite thing in the world :P

Once we landed, we went through the duty free store and holy moley, the booze was cheap! We picked up a 1lt bottle of Gin (Bombay Sapphire) for only $25! Yeeeehar. We later saw it in town for over $75. What a bargain. After we the checked into the hotel, we went for a wander around town. It's so pretty here, everything is beautiful. Lake Wakatipu is stunning, as you can see below. It stays light for so long here, I was able to snap this shot in the very late afternoon.

After an insanely long wait to book in ski passes for the next day (their computers were down for almost an hour), we decided a curry was in order.  Luckily there was a tasty Indian place rather close to the hotel. The last we'd eaten was in the very early morning before the flight so we were starving! We got a selection of yummy vego curries, the button mushroom was my favorite, so good. In fact, I could go another one right now :P Despite being in NZ, we saw our favorite wine, McGuigans, so we drank a bottle of that. Hah.

After dinner, we took a walk by the lake (a slightly drunken, FREEZING cold walk) and couldn't resist putting our hands in the water. Yep, just as I suspected, cold. And there were ducks still in the water, super cute <3 We also checked out Patagonia Chocolates. Wow, now *that* is a chocolate shop.

The next day we woke bright and early to get ready for a day of skiing. This was the view we woke to:-

Beautiful huh! We got into our ski gear and walked up to the bus for the 40 min ride up to Coronet Peak. The drive was lovely. Then we got to the snow! It was the first time both of us had seen snow in real life, play in it or ski <3 Brad was better at skiing that me, of course :P Ski boots hurt. My ankles and calves are bruised and swollen and my knees have some mysterious looking bruises. But it was FUN!

Not much in the way of vego food available up on the mountain (always frustrating) so we had a late lunch/early dinner at Devil Burger back in town. There was only one vego burger available but it was yummy! Next stop was the Remarkable Sweet Shop we'd heard so much about. One of my friends (HI NEWBS!) raved about it so when we found it in town, we had to stop in. Oh. My. God. Their fudge is incredible. I promised I'd grab her some but I think I'll do that before we go, it's not safe in the hotel room, LOL.

Tomorrow we have some sight seeing planned in historic Arrowtown and a soak in the Onsen Hot Pools.

Bye for now.
